Amidst the canvas of existence, an artist's brush weaves a symphony of colors and emotions. "Human Emotions," a gallery of whispers and echoes, invites you to step into a realm where the heart's secrets are unveiled through strokes of creativity.
Picture a garden, where emotions are delicate blooms, each petal a nuanced feeling waiting to be acknowledged. This exhibition, a tapestry woven by the skilled hands of Roger Mari, is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.
Imagine a mirror, reflecting the unspoken struggles we carry within. Through each stroke, each shade, the artist beckons us to embrace vulnerability and unveil the truths we conceal.
In the midst of shadows, there's light. With every canvas, a dialogue begins—a conversation about mental health and the profound strength it takes to acknowledge its presence. Just as the sun rises after the darkest night, so too does understanding emerge from silence.

Rage, 2020/21
Charcoal and Graphite over Paper. The pandemic thrust me into a tumultuous whirlpool of lost inspiration, as if the absence of human connection had numbed my senses. As the final days of 2020 dwindled, I absorbed the heavy toll—friends and artists lost, their journeys solitary and abrupt. Grief and anger consumed me, igniting a resolve to break free from the abyss and rekindle my creativity. A challenge beckoned, the most formidable: a self-portrait.
Amidst a dance of reflections in the mirror, I captured an image that encapsulated my emotions. Only then did I realize that my left hand, my faithful companion, had stealthily taken center stage. Undeterred, I snapped a photo and embarked on a mission. "Rage" was born—a raw testament etched on paper. On December 31st, the world held its breath as midnight arrived, yet my fervor burned brighter, rendering the drawing complete in the wee hours. |
This series stands as an homage to the countless souls plagued by mental anguish during the global quarantine of 2019-2021. It speaks for the multitudes confined to solitude, navigating the labyrinth of their minds amid the chaos of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Desolation, 2021 from the Human Emotions series
Mixed media painting over canvas 47x37 Inch In the annals of time, the year 2020 stands as a harbinger of transformation—a seismic upheaval that shattered the familiar contours of our existence. It was a maelstrom that unraveled the tapestry of our routine lives, leaving in its wake a desolate canvas painted with hues of emptiness, anguish, and yearning. The very air seemed to echo with the cries of pain, hunger, and the specter of mortality.
As the clock ticked relentlessly, the world witnessed the metamorphosis of its reality. Streets once bustling with life were cloaked in silence, a poignant reminder of the void that had crept into our daily routines. But within this chaos, seeds of resilience were sown—new ways of connecting, of surviving, and of rediscovering the essence of our humanity. The crucible of 2020, although rife with desolation, ignited the fires of unity and compassion, compelling us to reimagine our shared destiny. |
Despair, 2021 from the Human Emotions series
Mixed media painting over canvas, 47x37 Inch. Amidst the strokes of my painting "Despair," a vivid tale unfolds—one of profound human struggle. Here, I labor to convey the heart-wrenching weight of utter hopelessness, the abyss that has driven souls to the precipice of despair, teetering on the edge of self-destruction.
In the swirls of color and shadow, one witnesses a poignant effort, a last defiant stand against the encroaching darkness. The subject, a fragile figure, is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, striving to grasp the elusive lifeline of self-love even as the tempest rages. Within every brushstroke, a battle is waged—between the relentless grip of despair and the flickering ember of survival. "Despair" captures a moment of reckoning, where the human spirit confronts its deepest fears and vulnerabilities. It invites viewers to peer into the chasm of desolation, to witness the raw struggle to embrace self-worth as a final lifeline. Through this canvas, I aim to illuminate the shadows that often go unnoticed, urging a compassionate understanding of the battles many wage silently within themselves. |
Loneliness, 2021 from the Human Emotions series
Mixed media painting over canvas, 47x37 Inch. The realm of artistic expression, my painting titled "Loneliness" stands as a vivid and evocative portrayal of intricate human emotions. This piece delves deep into the multifaceted layers of solitude, weaving a tapestry of profound complexity from the threads of yearning for connection and the poignant ache of estrangement from the bonds that tie us together.
Within this canvas, emotions take center stage, each brushstroke a note in a somber symphony of the heart. The figure depicted, ethereal and semi-transparent, assumes a ghostly form—an entity suspended between the realms of existence and void, an unfinished story yearning for completion. The very essence of this being appears to liquefy, reflecting the fragility and vulnerability that accompany the heavy burden of isolation. The eyes of the figure, fixated on an expanse of emptiness, serve as windows into a soul in search of solace. The scene carries an underlying unease, every stroke conveying the restless spirit that often accompanies seclusion. However, amidst this disquiet, a spark of hope endures—an ember of optimism that flickers within the portrayal of a life stripped of its usual companionship and connections. "Loneliness" stands as an emotional canvas that resonates with the universal human pursuit of comprehension, compassion, and the unyielding journey towards rediscovering love's resilience in the midst of solitude. |

As brushstrokes intertwine, the hues of sadness and longing emerge, creating a visual tapestry that resonates with the echoes of absence. "Bereavement" becomes a vessel through which viewers can navigate their own experiences of loss, a mirror reflecting the kaleidoscope of emotions that accompany such moments of upheaval. It is a testament to the human spirit's ability to navigate the labyrinth of heartache, ultimately finding solace in shared stories of resilience and renewal. |
Isolation, 2021 from the Human Emotions series
Mixed media painting over canvas, 37x47 Inch. Within the canvas of "Isolation," I delve into uncharted emotional territories. This artwork sheds light on the often-hidden depths of human experience, unearthing the chilling reality of suicide—a stark portrayal of desolation. The painting mirrors the isolation that countless souls endure, trapped in the enigmatic void.
Shadows and vibrant strokes intertwine, weaving a tapestry of raw emotion. Their thoughts, a labyrinth of darkness, resonate with the haunting echoes of solitude. Whether fueled by severed connections, yearning for companionship, or the unfamiliar, the canvas echoes the universal pulse of vulnerability. |

Acceptance, 2021 from the Human Emotions series
Mixed media painting over canvas, 47x37 Inch. Ultimately, a moment of reckoning arrives—a solemn acknowledgment that despite the ache of the present, the path forward demands a confrontation with formidable emotions. The realization dawns that the intricate tapestry of healing entails traversing the terrain of pain, grappling with the shadows that once ensnared us. Yet, within this odyssey, lies the key: seeking closure, a powerful elixir that beckons us towards liberation.
As the tendrils of closure weave their magic, the weight of anger, the shroud of sadness, and the fog of confusion begin to lift. The shackles of guilt and the barbs of hurt, that once held us in their tenacious grasp, gradually loosen. The heartache of yesterday takes on a new dimension, transforming into the steppingstones that propel us toward a brighter horizon. Acceptance is the first brushstroke on the canvas of resilience. It's the recognition that while the journey may be treacherous, it is through these trials that the tapestry of our strength is woven. The courage to face the tempest within us shapes the narrative of our evolution. And as we brave this emotional labyrinth, we inch ever closer to the radiant dawn of healing and renewal. |
